(Dickson, TN) – Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Dickson and the Clarksville campus recently hosted a SkillsUSA Open House after receiving a sponsorship grant from Channellock. It was held simultaneously at both the Dickson and Clarksville campuses.
Companies such as Flying J, Snap-On, Tennova, Delight Products, A. O. Smith, and Workforce Essentials attended. Many local high students, teachers, and counselors attended as well. Tours and demonstrations were given by the students to highlight the programs, training equipment and facilities.
The SkillsUSA Open House provided an opportunity for the TCAT students to work together as a team and improve their communication skills as they prepared for and volunteered to host the open house. The chapter was also able to showcase their previous awards, competitors, and accomplishments.
In April of 2019, there will be thirty-eight TCAT Dickson and Clarksville Campus students participating in the state-wide SkillsUSA competition in Chattanooga. The students will be competing in such areas as: cosmetology, nails, industrial motor controls, welding sculpture, welding fabrication, diesel powered equipment, advertising, HVAC, mechatronics, CNC turning and milling, additive manufacturing, customer service, esthetics, dental assisting, photography, CNA, CPR, medical math, medical terminology, and practical nursing.
Tennessee has over 11,000 students and professional SkillsUSA members annually. Students participate in various activities throughout the year including leadership training, community service and competition. To learn more about SkillsUSA Tennessee State Association visit http://tnpsskillsusa.org/
