Stories @ TCAT

Today I had the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive meeting of the Tennessee Board of Regents in which the Chancellor, each Vice Chancellor, and other department heads, provided COVID-19 guidance pertaining to the various departments within our college. Based on the information received to date from the Tennessee Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and TBR, TCAT Dickson remains open at this time. However, we are prepared to enact other measures to protect our students, employees, and community should it become necessary.

For the past week the senior staff team has been working diligently to develop a pandemic plan for the COVID-19 illness. Future announcements related to COVID-19 plans and announcements will be posted on the following page: https://tcatdickson.edu/about/current-campus-status.

As of now, this plan is in the process of implementation with the goal of preventing a COVID-19 outbreak. Namely by communicating with students and employees about the efforts that are being made on their behalf and by reminding all employees of the importance of using good hygiene measures:

The CDC is recommending common sense measures such as:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Additionally, ongoing cleaning efforts of the facilities will be occurring daily. All students and employees are being asked to keep their personal working areas clean and disinfected as you are able.

As we look to the coming weeks, and possibly months, it is now time to think of our mission of workforce development...we may be called upon to roll up our sleeves and get to work in a new and challenging way to keep us moving forward, but I have confidence that we can do this and that we will succeed.

I appreciate all of you and pray that each and everyone remains healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Arrita Summers
President
