CLARKSVILLE, TN: The Clarksville campus of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Dickson held a groundbreaking ceremony February 10, for a new transportation building which will house already established Automotive Technology (AUT) and Diesel Powered Equipment Technology (DPE) programs but will include extra space allowing the college to expand offerings at the Clarksville campus.

Fellowship Construction of Bon Aqua, Tennessee will build the 22,500 square foot building designed by Johnson, Johnson, Crabtree Architects, P.C. of Nashville on the college property located at 135 International Boulevard. The new facility is tentatively scheduled to open in 2026.

The Automotive Technology and the Diesel Powered Equipment programs had both outgrown their current spaces on the campus. Their new home will be a state-of-the-art facility providing growth opportunities for both programs.

TCAT Dickson President Laura Travis is thrilled with the addition to the Clarksville campus. “The future of technical education is bright in Montgomery County. A successful community depends on a skilled workforce. This investment will contribute to the economic growth of the region by providing increased training opportunities that will align with the workforce needs of the area,” Travis said.

The Clarksville campus expansion had been planned for about three years with funding approved during the Tennessee General Assembly’s Fiscal Year 2022-23 budget. In addition to the new Transportation Building, plans also call for the renovation of existing spaces, which will provide a workforce training space that will allow the expansion of special industry classes designed to meet the needs of local business and industry partners.

Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Dr. Flora Tydings, Tennessee State Senator Bill Powers, State Representative Ronnie Glynn, State Representative Jeff Burkhart, Clarksville City Mayor Joe Pitts, along with numerous industry partners attended the event.

TCAT Dickson and the Clarksville campus, part of the College System of Tennessee and governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents, currently offers seventeen programs of study across its four locations.
