Practical Nursing

Students study basic nursing skills and related subjects such as body structure and function, nutrition, pharmacology, obstetrics, and psychology. Clinical experience provides supervised nursing care of medical, surgical, obstetric, and pediatric patients. Both classroom work and clinical experiences are such that upon completion of the course, the graduate is eligible for written examination by the State Board of Nursing. Licensed practical nurses who have passed their examination usually work under the supervision of the registered nurse or physician.
TCAT Dickson does not have a Nursing Assistant program. Students are eligible to receive a Nursing Assistant certificate if all first trimester work has been successfully completed. If the student wishes to become a certified nursing assistant, he/she would need to apply for certification through the state regulatory board.
Class Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 2:30 PM
Clinical Hours: May be outside of the 8 AM-2:30 PM class times.

HESI Admissions Assessment Exam Information

Admission to the Practical Nursing Program is highly competitive, and only a select number of students are enrolled to each class. To qualify, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements of the HESI Admissions Assessment Exam.

The HESI test is given at regular intervals. Applicants will be scheduled for the test following the information session.

Achieving the minimum scores on the exam does not guarantee admission.  Admission to the nursing program is based on scores on the entrance exam. Applicants must have a completed application to be considered for admission.
