The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Dickson is proud to recognize local winners of this year’s SkillsUSA state competitions. The award winners competed alongside other TCAT and secondary participants from across the state during the Annual Postsecondary SkillsUSA competitions in March.
Career and technical education students from high schools and colleges across the state competed in 107 contest categories, demonstrating their talents in multiple career areas, including mechatronics, cosmetology, automotive technology, health science, machining, and computer networking.
Normally a three-day event in Chattanooga, the SkillsUSA state competition was held virtually this year. All competitions were videotaped and uploaded by the March 12 deadline, followed by Zoom interviews March 23-30. The awards were announced April 5 via online broadcast.
“I take great pride in my role as a SkillsUSA advisor,” said Computer Information Technology instructor Brandon Rives, who has advised the Dickson campus students for the past five years. “I have seen students grow in their leadership skills and confidence, and I believe SkillsUSA has helped students gain more rewarding careers.”
SkillsUSA Tennessee Postsecondary serves more than 100,000 career and technical students and teachers statewide. These students represent 40 community and technical colleges across the state.
“It is an amazing experience to be a part of SkillsUSA,” said TCAT Dickson medalist Marie Wright. “Participating in Skills has allowed me to display my love and passion for the beauty industry. This has also taught me to step out of my comfort zone and learn some new talents. Most of all, I am truly grateful to be able to make people feel beautiful.”
An outstanding representation of the future workforce of Tennessee, gold medalists will move on to the SkillsUSA national competition in June.
This year’s state winners represent both the TCAT Dickson and Clarksville campuses.
