Dickson, TN: TCAT Dickson has moved its Practical Nursing program – continually operating for more than 60 years - to the new Dickson Center of Higher Education. Current Practical Nursing students spent their first day in the new facility Thursday. The move provides students with an opportunity to learn in a state-of-the-art facility situated next door to TriStar Horizon Medical Center’s Natchez campus.

TCAT Dickson premiered its Pharmacy Technology program at the Dickson Center of Higher Education earlier this month and has plans to begin a new Medical Assisting program in the new building later this year. Pharmacy Technology and Medical Assisting are both new offerings in Dickson County for the college.

TCAT Dickson President Laura Travis said, “It is a wonderful step forward as the Dickson Center of Higher Education provides individuals with educational opportunities close to home. It is an exciting time for our students and our workforce partners as we train tomorrow’s healthcare workforce.”

TCAT’s roots date back to 1964 with a single location and one program offering. Fast forward sixty-two years and the college has expanded its footprint. In addition to the main campus in Dickson and the Dickson Center of Higher Education, the college also has locations in Clarksville and Franklin with a new location opening in Houston County in September and more than twenty technical programs offered across those campuses. TCAT Dickson also offers programming at the Turney Center Industrial Complex.

“TCAT Dickson’s move to the Dickson Center of Higher Education is exciting,” Director of Nursing and Health Careers Stephanie Murphy explained. “The new lab spaces developed for nursing and allied health students include advanced technical equipment and simulators. The new building allows room for program expansion,” Murphy added.

Practical Nursing’s move to the Dickson Center of Higher Education has opened space on the main campus to begin a new Surgical Technology program planned to open this fall. The college’s Dental Assisting program will remain on the main campus.

“TCAT Dickson is committed to providing quality healthcare education and supporting the needs in our community. Being able to provide this level of healthcare education right here in Dickson will have a lasting impact on healthcare access for Dickson and surrounding counties,” Murphy said.

TCAT Dickson is currently accepting applications for allied health programs including Practical Nursing, Pharmacy Technology, Medical Assisting, and Surgical Technology.
