Clarksville, TN: Twenty-seven TCAT Dickson Clarksville campus Practical Nursing students were honored during a traditional pinning ceremony held at Austin Peay State University on Thursday. The ceremony signified the end of a college journey and the beginning of professional careers.

Stephanie Murphy, TCAT Dickson Director of Nursing and Health Careers, welcomed graduating students and their families. Murphy explained all practical nursing graduates had worked through numerous obstacles to reach the pinning ceremony. “Each of these students have endured sleepless nights and long hours of study to be here today,” Murphy said.

Murphy explained students spend nearly half of their total program hours completing hands-on learning at clinical sites. Murphy recognized student Tnisha Monique Greene who received the class award for Outstanding Clinical Performance.

Students Maritza Charles, Ruth Munyambu, and Audrey Sullenbarger were acknowledged for having been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). Students inducted into NTHS must main an “A” average, be present for at least 95 percent of their total program hours and be nominated by their instructors.

TCAT Dickson President Laura Travis presented each graduate with a copy of the Nightingale Pledge, named after Florence Nightingale, to read in unison while instructors pinned all students. The School of Nursing pins bear an image of an oil lamp resembling the one carried by Florence Nightingale. Instructors also issued candles to each graduate – symbolic of the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.

Practical Nursing graduates from the Clarksville camps participating in the pinning ceremony included Daniel Anderson, Blake Bailey, Antryon Brown, Darquashia Caruthers, Maritza Charles, Amanda Claytor, Brianna Dugger, Britni Duncan, Amani Ellis, Joy Flowers, Frankeshia Foxx, Sharmaine Godfrey, Tnisha Greene, Jordan Logan, LaPorcha Montgomery, Ruth Munyambu, Desiree Patterson, Mikayla Pearce, Heather Sanders, Sadiat Shannon, Kendra Simpson, Audrey Sullenbarger, and Kenisha White-Mayers.
