from Dickson and Clarksville:
Big winners in Annual SkillsUSA Competition

(Dickson, TN) The Tennessee College of Applied Technology is proud to recognize area winners of this year’s SkillsUSA competitions.  The award winners competed alongside 2,500 other TCAT and secondary participants from across the state during the Annual Postsecondary SkillsUSA competitions held in Chattanooga, April 10-12.

Career and technical education students from high schools and colleges across the state competed in 106 contests demonstrating their talents in multiple career areas, including manufacturing, transportation, construction, hospitality and human service fields.

“The students and instructors did an absolute amazing job this year, says Deanna Wallace, Clarksville Chapter Advisor. “The excitement from last year’s competition carried over to this year with more student participation and advance preparation. The working together created bonds and friendships and ultimately, pride.”

An outstanding representation of the future workforce of Tennessee, Gold medalists will move on to the SkillsUSA National Competition June 19-23 in Louisville, Kentucky.  This year’s winners hail from both the TCAT Dickson and Clarksville campuses.  The list of winners is as follows:

Gold:

Whitney Zimmerman/Kayla Stanley/Stephanie Kelly – PN Career Pathway Team – Gold Medal/ Dickson campus

David Pate – Advertising Design - Gold Medal/Clarksville campus

Kris Newton – Photography - Gold Medal/Clarksville campus

Ricky Raines – Welding Sculpture – Gold Medal/Clarksville campus

Silver:

Karen McKinney – CPR First Aid/Silver Medal/Dickson campus

Stacey Barnett – Medical Terminology – Silver Medal/Dickson campus

Ryan Dennis – CNC Turning – Silver Medal/Clarksville campus

Bronze:

Silvia Torres – Cosmetology – Bronze Medal/Dickson campus

David Pate – T-shirt Design – Bronze Medal/Clarksville campus

Patrick Barnes/Garrett Eberly and Oscar Rodriguez – Welding Fabrication – Bronze Medal/Clarksville campus

Students were beyond proud when asked about their experiences. “Thanks to a patient and knowledgeable instructor, Mark Poe, I was able to represent my school with the highest pride,” noted Ricky Raines.
